Letters from the Chair

July 2010

Greetings!

Hope you are having a great summer so far.  YLS has been busy gearing up for the year ahead and welcoming our new crop of Steering Committee members.  In June, we hosted our first ever annual meeting, inviting our entire general membership to meet the YLS leadership, get a recap of our events from the past year, and discuss our goals for 2010-2011. We also invited interested members to get more involved by signing up to help plan some of our larger events and projects.  In particular, the Ballpark Bash, which is coming up Thursday, August 12, at Carolina Stadium, the home of our 2010 NCAA champions, so mark your calendars.  Registration is now open and tickets are discounted at $10 until July 29. Click here to register.

We are very proud of the impact YLS is making in the community.  We successfully recruited 40 new YLS members last year for a total of 390 members, representing 97 different companies.  And we hope to continue growing.  YLS was actively involved in United Way’s 2009 campaign, contributing $448,486 to the overall $10.1 million total, and with 15 YLS members serving on the campaign committee again this year, we will remain engaged.  Your contributions are making a difference and bettering our community, especially in the areas of education, income and health.

We look forward to an exciting year ahead and building upon the positive achievements and momentum as we continue to further the mission of the United Way of the Midlands and develop the future leaders of our community.  Be sure to explore our newly revamped website and check out photos, news and information about our upcoming events; become a fan of YLS Midlands on Facebook and follow us @YLSMidlands on Twitter.  If you have any questions regarding your YLS membership, please contact Whitney Sousa at 803.733.5419 or wsousa@uway.org.
